As I began to lose interest in emulating the Beatles, I found that it wasn't emulating their music, but rather tapping into their creative energy and after all the years of learning, practicing and playing, it was then that the creativity within me simultaneously expressed itself
I was certainly surprised with the outpouring of my new found FreeStyle of playing that presented itself
Being trained in the classical fingerpicking style, I was a chordal player and found when the rhythm tracks were laid down, that harmony, in the form of a second guitar as lead, was needed
So, as I attempted to play the harmony in a single notes linear fashion, I found I had no idea as to how I was going to do that as I was placing my finger randomly on the fretboard and it sounded awful
Looking back at the guitar book my guitar teacher required me to have, I found the theory which created the patterns played on the fretboard
I also remembered my teacher asking me, "Are you getting theory in your classes?" and I answered yes, not understanding the depth of the question, which was answered as I began learning the theory as it pertained to the guitar and improvisation
The material learned was overwhelming and so as I started recording it down on paper, I began seeing a remarkable relationship between the Pythagorean based Western musical theory and the layout of the guitar fretboard as it applied to the improvisation of Blues and Spanish music
Guitar Logic: Patterns For Creative Expression reveals how the Blues and Spanish music are integrated into the Western musical system for clarity, which opens the way for creativity to be expressed at the feminine intuitive creative level, along side of the masculine logical theoretical patterns that were formed
As a side benefit, I found that practicing the patterns enhanced my playing exponentially, while memorizing so I no longer needed to think, but intuitively play and the music simply happened, which and to this day, I have given credit to the creative forces of the Universe as I was merely the vessel that was prepared for the magic to manifest
As with the spiritual sharing, the music is free, however the instruction book costs to print
